The Hotmail switch has begun: Hotmail users now arrive in Outlook.com inboxes

As I've predicted, the forced upgrade from Windows Live Hotmail to Outlook.com has started happening soon after I wrote the post about Microsoft's warnings about switching before being forced to do so.

Microsoft's Hotmail showing banners and popups warning users to upgrade to Outlook.com before they are forced to do so

As some may know, I use Hotmail's inbox interface for all of my Techman's World inboxes (unless a user decides to upgrade on their own) because it offers better display of a site's custom logo, in this case it's the Techman's World logo. For everything else, I use Outlook.com.

Outlook.com is now out of preview, Hotmail users to be upgraded this summer

Through my somewhat extensive coverage of the Outlook.com story, Microsoft has announced that it is now out of preview a few days ago. Outlook.com is now a full blown service, and is ready to take in millions users.

The reason why I said that it is ready to take million of users is because during the entire preview stage Microsoft was adding infrastructure upgrade to keep up with the demand of Outlook.com, which was more than expected according to them.

Having an issue getting emails sent from mega.co.nz in Hotmail? Here's how to fix the issue.

The Mega service launched just a few days ago, and based on reports from Hotmail and Outlook.com users, they aren't getting their confirmation emails when they sign up using a Microsoft email account.

As of now the emails aren't getting delivered, and it has something to do with Microsoft's end. The emails are most likely getting caught in Microsoft's SmartScreen spam filters, but Kim Dotcom sent out a tweet that said that Mega themselves are working on a solution.

Some Hotmail users being switched over to Outlook.com without consent; to give feedback to the Outlook team

A few minutes ago I was loading up my email accounts for Techman's World, which uses Windows Live Admin Center to power the email and other collaboration features. I have custom branding enabled, so I have my logo show on Microsoft's web services when someone is using a @techmansworld.com account. Outlook.com does not work well with custom branding, so I kept my accounts that I had control over under Hotmail, with a nice dark green background to really make the site's logo stand out.

Email Tip: Reading Pane Settings in Outlook.com and Hotmail

Get a lot of email? Want to read messages quickly while saving time? Well this tip is for you. If you did not know about this, most webmail clients and email clients allow something called a reading pane. They sound exactly like they are -- they are little panes where you can read your messages.

Problem I found with Outlook.com

You know, I haven't really covered Outlook.com here that much. For all I know, not much details have come out about it, so I have nothing to write about. Not today, because I found a problem with Outlook.com, and it is a compatibility bug.

A sad thing about free email accounts these days...

Ah, email. We love you , and hate you.
Ya know, many people in this world use email. Most of those email accounts from from popular web mail providers, such as Gmail, Yahoo!, Hotmail (and pretty soon, Outlook.com), AOL mail, etc. One of the main requirements of having a free email account is to actually use it, and use it often.

You see, when you don't use your email account, it gets discarded -- and most likely deleted. That is the sad part about free email accounts.

So, here is where I make this post interesting: Do you think that email accounts should be deleted after inactivity? Obviously there are reasons to delete email accounts that are inactive, such as to save server space (although that is probably not a factor these days).

You can weigh in your thoughts in the comments below, this time there won't be a poll unless I change my mind (with is not often).

Grab your Outlook.com domain when you can

Microsoft's new Outlook.com email service looks very promising, but I have to give a fair warning to existing Hotmail users who also might want their address under the @outlook.com domain. You see, you won't automatically get your hotmail addresses under the @outlook.com domain. You'll have to register a new email address.

What are your thoughts on Hotmail and Outlook?

With Microsoft announcing Outlook.com, many are wondering about what is going to be happening to Hotmail. Is it going to be merged, ditched, or what? In today's post, I'm asking you that question. What do you think about Hotmail and Outlook.com, and what do you think is going to happen to the already existing Hotmail service?

Microsoft Launches Public Preview of Outlook.com email service (Update: In depth look added)

Image via Engadget. Outlook.com is property of Microsoft Corporation.
Today Microsoft has launched a new email service, currently in its preview phase. This service is called Outlook.com, and it is built from scratch instead of remodeling the current Hotmail email service (I personally use that for my personal email, as well for Techman's World). This is also to surface Microsoft away form Hotmail's bad rep.

Microsoft Account Changes Arrive for Windows Live Users

While logging into Windows Live (to use the awesome Unity web apps integration), I ran into something really interesting. Remember a few months ago when Microsoft announced it was merging all of its account systems into one unified system -- the Microsoft Account?

Well it is finally coming for Windows Live users. When you visit a login page for Windows Live (I just used mail.live.com as an example), you will now get a refreshed screen. In addition, you will get some new metro like styling to the login page, probably to fit into its upcoming Windows 8 operating system.

Metro-style Hotmail turns up in leaked screenshots

Lately, Microsoft has been Metro happy as some people say. Recently, Bing got a metro makeover. You can test it out right now actually. This time around, Hotmail is next in line for a Metro redesign. If a set of leaked screenshots obtained by WinFuture are any indication, however, it looks like the nearly sixteen-year-old email service could soon be getting one of its biggest redesigns to date. As you'd expect, it all looks very Metro, but also very unfinished, with a number of features reportedly still missing or not working properly. Of course, there's no indication when or if it'll actually roll out to the millions of Hotmail users (though the Windows 8 launch would provide a convenient fit), but there's plenty more screenshots where this one came from at the source link below.
