Fun Friday: Periodic Table Week 2 Answers

Wow, I didn't get as many responses that I anticipated from last weeks followup questions on the Periodic Table. Don't worry, I still have the answers. They are below.

  1. Carbon is Carbon because of its many different types of bonds with other atoms. sp3 hybridization is when the 2s and 2p paths combine to form a new pathway.
  2. The last stable element on the board is Pb, lead. The next element after that with an atomic number of 83, Bismuth, is slightly radio active, but its half life is so long that generations would be dead before half of the nucleus decays. If you also didn't know, Uranium will eventually decay into lead, the last stable element on the board. Otherwise, the material would keep decaying until it forms something stable
  3. An isotope is an element with the same number of protons, but different numbers of neutrons. An example of an isotope would be O - 16, Oxygen 16
  4. Hydrogen 1 (H - 1) is so unique because it has no neutrons. It only has a proton and electron.
If you have any thoughts on these answers, then let me know in the comments below. Last weeks post can be found here.
