Statistical Fun With Spam

The internet is an amazing thing, but it has its downsides. Besides trolls, there's another part of the internet that is probably one of the most annoying things to ever exist, and will likely never be a battle with a surefire ending. That battle, my friends, is spam.

Spam (according to Wikipedia) is defined as "use of electronic messaging systems to send unsolicited bulk messages, especially advertising, indiscriminately." Spam for a long time has existed. There's a lot more forms of spamming then just conventional email spam. There's many other types of spam, such as spamming you would find on IRC networks.

Have you ever sat down and thought "I wonder where all of this spam is coming from..."? I ran into some interesting web pages from Spamhaus that helps answer that question. Turns out, while it it can be hard to find the real people behind spam operations, Spamhaus apparently has some of the largest spam operations already figured out. Below you can find some interesting statistics:

  2. Top 10 worst ISPs
