System76 launches Bonobo Extreme Laptop!

In addition with my other article, System76 has also released a new laptop along with their sweet Christmas deals. Although their wasn't much of a preview from their Twitter that I know of, the release is still a game changer, literally. If you love to game on your PC, and want something that is prepped for the upcoming Steam for Linux launch, or want a Linux PC that is truly powerful, this laptop might be for you.

The System76 Bonobo Extreme is a 17.3 inch laptop with the worlds fastest mobile CPU and GPU. That is, Intel processors and NVIDIA graphics. The inclusion of NVIDIA graphics is a first in a while due to Optimus not playing nicely with Linux. However, I don't know how exactly they pulled off the combination. I'll ask Emma in a later email. AMD graphics will not be an option because AMD does not meet System76's quality standards.

Base Specs

This is the base config of the Bonobo Extreme. I think you'll notice why this laptop is a beast.

  • 17.3″ Backlit Display with Glossy Surface ( 1920 x 1080 )
  • Intel i7 3630QM Processor clocked @ 2.40GHz (Quad core + hyper threading)
  • 8GB DDR3 RAM
  • 500 GB 7200 RPM HDD
  • nVidia Geforce GTX 670MX 3GB
  • DVD Drive
  • 8 Cell Battery
Of course the specs go higher then that, much higher. With all of these powerful components, that brings us to another thing: weight. If this laptop didn't weigh a lot, I'd question what is really on the inside. This laptop packs a hardy 8.60 pounds, or 3.9 kilograms.

The laptop also has something really nice, and from what I know a first in System76 products:  a backlit keyboard! The keyboard has 7 colors to choose from. You can see it shown off below in the animated GIF Image.
