Microsoft Drops the "Metro" UI name due to trademark issues

For the past year now, "Metro" has been the name given to the new user interface that now showing up in all Microsoft products, especially Windows 8. This name was very popular, but today this is all changing.

Microsoft has sent out an internal memo to all of its developers stating to not refer to their new interface as metro anymore following a possible trademark dispute, and it seems to be true. So to avoid a dispute, Microsoft has dropped the Metro name for its new user interface, following "discussions with an important European partner."

Microsoft is supposed to be picking another name later on this week, so stay tuned. Right now there are reports that say that it is now being called the "Windows 8 Style UI." What a handful to say, right? It is also harder to catch onto.
