500 Posts of Techman's World

Another milestone for Techman's World. Today, Techman's World has reached 500 posts, and just over 17,000 page views.

Along with that, the site has been through many changes, all for the good. From better logo's to better customizations. The creator of this site has even been sharing his software projects here.

This website runs off of one person, and wants you to spread the word. So if you love to visit Techman's World, please do a favor and just spread the word. The reason I keep investing time into this is because I know that I do have a community, small or not, that enjoys to come here.

Thanks to all who come here.

Slight Site Change

Hey readers.
Today I am announcing a slight change with the comments. You won't really notice it very much, but you will if you have the DBXLNightFever font installed on your system.

First, the h3 that says "Add a New Comment' is not in DBXLNightFever font, and it is 15pt, so it is a little larger.

For users who do not have DBXLNightFever font installed, you will just see the norm with just bigger text.

Post a comment below with feedback, or want to propose another comment system mod that you think will make the site better.

UPDATE: Every h3 element in Disqus is now DBXLNightFever. If you do not have that font, you'll just see the same old-same old.

Kubuntu 12.04 LTS Review

Kubuntu is a free open source operating system that is based of off the hugely popular Ubuntu linux distro. Kubuntu includes the KDE Plasma desktop environment instead of Unity, like the main distro includes. Kubuntu also has customized packages that could or could not be the same in the main Ubuntu distro. An example could be the web browser. More on that later

If you know already, I have been review the 12.10 versions of Ubuntu. The reason why I chose 12.04 over 12.10 in this release was because of the file size. At the time when I downloaded the ISO, my own limitations caused me to get this release. Besides, the 12.10 version was almost 1 GB in size, almost too big to fit on my 1 GB USB stick. Now that we have this sorted out, lets start the review.

Facebook to buy Instagram

Here's some news for this rather normal Monday...or so it seems. This happens to be some news, especially if you are a fan of Instagram and run it on your Mac machine.

Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg has let slip that his company plans to buy popular photo-sharing app Instagram (pending all of the standard regulatory approvals, naturally). According to a report from All Things D's Kara Swisher, Facebook will pick up the social app, which got its own long-awaited Android version, for a cool $1 billion in cash and shares. Zuckerberg confirmed the news on his personal blog, adding that the deal won't affect Instagram's integration with competing social networks.

We think the fact that Instagram is connected to other services beyond Facebook is an important part of the experience. We plan on keeping features like the ability to post to other social networks, the ability to not share your Instagrams on Facebook if you want, and the ability to have followers and follow people separately from your friends on Facebook.
Instagram CEO Kevin Systrom confirmed via his site's blog that the service, "is not going away," adding, "The Instagram app will still be the same one you know and love."

So here is a press release. Let me know of your thoughts on this below.

Facebook to Acquire Instagram

MENLO PARK, CALIF.-April 9, 2012-Facebook announced today that it has reached an agreement to acquire Instagram, a fun, popular photo-sharing app for mobile devices.

The total consideration for San Francisco-based Instagram is approximately $1 billion in a combination of cash and shares of Facebook. The transaction, which is subject to customary closing conditions, is expected to close later this quarter.

Mark Zuckerberg, founder and CEO of Facebook, posted about the transaction on his Timeline:

I'm excited to share the news that we've agreed to acquire Instagram and that their talented team will be joining Facebook.

For years, we've focused on building the best experience for sharing photos with your friends and family. Now, we'll be able to work even more closely with the Instagram team to also offer the best experiences for sharing beautiful mobile photos with people based on your interests.

We believe these are different experiences that complement each other. But in order to do this well, we need to be mindful about keeping and building on Instagram's strengths and features rather than just trying to integrate everything into Facebook.

That's why we're committed to building and growing Instagram independently. Millions of people around the world love the Instagram app and the brand associated with it, and our goal is to help spread this app and brand to even more people.

We think the fact that Instagram is connected to other services beyond Facebook is an important part of the experience. We plan on keeping features like the ability to post to other social networks, the ability to not share your Instagrams on Facebook if you want, and the ability to have followers and follow people separately from your friends on Facebook.

These and many other features are important parts of the Instagram experience and we understand that. We will try to learn from Instagram's experience to build similar features into our other products. At the same time, we will try to help Instagram continue to grow by using Facebook's strong engineering team and infrastructure.

This is an important milestone for Facebook because it's the first time we've ever acquired a product and company with so many users. We don't plan on doing many more of these, if any at all. But providing the best photo sharing experience is one reason why so many people love Facebook and we knew it would be worth bringing these two companies together.

We're looking forward to working with the Instagram team and to all of the great new experiences we're going to be able to build together.

Linus Torvalds on Google+ -- Check out these posts

So community, you guys/gals should already know that I do run a form of Linux, the Ubuntu distro. I currently run 10.04 LTS. Their newest LTS release, 12.04 LTS, will be released later this month. Take a look at the countdown widget I installed a few weeks ago.

So I was looking at the Linux Action Show the other day, and saw a post that Linus Torvalds, the creator of the Linux kernel, and currently oversees the development of the kernel.

So in this post, he vents about openSUSE, and it gained a lot of upvotes, or "plus ones".

And after that, he did this. Slick move on his part.

So I'm going to try it. Lets see how many Disqus upvotes/Google +1's I can by posting that picture of the cat.

So lets see....
And always remember to follow Linus Torvalds on Google+ if you are a Linux fan.
